   TRAVEL GUIDE

India (Hindi: भारत BhÄrat; see also other names), officially the Republic of India (Hindi: भारतीय गणराजà¥à¤¯ BhÄratiya GaṇarÄjya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the west, and the Bay of Bengal on the east, India has a coastline of 7,517 kilometers (4,671 mi).Kumar et al. 2006, p. 531 It borders Pakistan to the west;Footnote: The Government of India also considers Afghanistan to be a bordering country. This is because it considers the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir to be a part of India including the portion bordering Afghanistan. A ceasefire sponsored by the United Nations in 1948 froze the positions of Indian and Pakistani held territory. As a consequence, the region bordering Afghanistan is in Pakistan-administered territory. China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Bangladesh and Burma to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Indonesia.

Hill Resorts

Mist-clad mountains create magnificent landscapes across the entire north-eastern States including Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya, under the sobriquet of 'seven sisters'.  The other hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir provide a breathtaking variety of the Himalayan splendour. The Nilgiris in the South include picturesque hill stations of Anantagiri, Udhagamandalam, Madikeri and Munnar. Mount Abu in Rajasthan,Panchagani in Madhya Pradesh, Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra are the other  popular hill destinations that offer a quiet sojourn.

Heritage

Madhya Pradesh, located in the center of the Nation, is abundant with a landscape of forests, soaring hills, glittering rivers, and of course the remnants of a glorious past with fortresses & palaces that marvel the architecture and cultural heritage of the yesteryears. You could perhaps begin your journey at the ancient city of Gwalior, meander around Shivpuri, a national park, or look-see the temples and palaces of the Bundela rules lining the banks of a river at Orchha. But the highpoint of your trip, of course, would be the stupendous temples of Khajuraho. So do not fail to check it out!

 The Golden Triangle

Three magnificent cities that capture the pageantry of India in all its majestic architecture rich tradition of art & culture: The marble symphony of Shahjahan's Taj Mahal, the imperial elegance of Lutyen's New Delhi, the splendour of the pink city of Jaipur. Start your journey at Delhi (well-connected locally, nationally & internationally), then move on to Agra (200 kms) and finally culminate the trip of the golden triangle at  Jaipur (250 km away).

Sun, sand & surf

The pearly beaches fringed by emerald green coconut trees are indeed a feast to the eyes. Kovalam, located on the southern Malabar Coast in Kerala is one of the most frequented beaches in India.  The Konkan coast in the west has the beaches of Goa, the most popular destination for sun-worshippers from across the globe, and Diu. On the Coromandel coast in the east are the rock-cut temples by the sea at Mamallapuram and the seaside retreat at Gopalpur-on-Sea.

 Vacation on Islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal. The clear turquoise blue sea teeming with fish & coral reefs in the Andamans, make it ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Some of the must-see beaches are at Wandour, Corbyn’s Cove, Jolly Buoy and Ross Islands.

You could choose to follow the temple trail of the Kanchipuram - Madurai - Tiruchirapalli - Kanniyakumari circuit and discover some of the notable examples of temple art and architecture. Or discover the intricate craftsmanship, at temple sites in Belur and Halebid, Aihole, Hampi and Pattadakal

The Holy Bodhi tree at Bodhgaya under which Sakyamuni Gautama Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment over two thousand five hundred years ago, is a place worth visiting. Also Sarnath, where he gave his first sermon and Kushinagar where he attained Parinirvana. And don’t forget to tour around the ruins of Nalanda, the ancient school of learning.

Banking facilities, for the conversion of rupees into foreign currency are usually located in the same airport hall as the check-in counters. It is best to access these facilities before immigration as they are not available thereafter. All animal products, souvenirs, and trophies are subject to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The export of skins made from protected wildlife species is not allowed. Such items cannot be imported into many countries, including the United States.
